HK 3.28.16.

HK was dining in his nest when I arrived.

He left a couple of times but went just across the fairway and back to the nest area.

He chased away an Osprey that came too close then landed on his new fav tree. A big THANK YOU to Larry who allowed me to shoot from his driveway today. No other eagles were seen.

HK Photo Op

Lucky me! HK flew in just as soon as I drove up this afternoon! And he stayed around for two hours! He chased away an Osprey, ate a little something in the nest, moved some sticks around.

He delivered some soft stuff, quite dramatically!

Then, he flew around the block, coming to land behind me, much to the delight of some neighborhood children!

Happy Hatch Day, HK! #7!

Handsome HK is 7 years old today, if you go by hatch date. He has the full white head and tail of a mature adult Bald Eagle.
HK continues to bring in nest material and chase off Osprey.  He seems to have become quite comfortable with photographers across the street and the usual comings and goings of neighborhood residents, including children and dogs.
Here is HK squawking at an Osprey that came too close.

The rest are of HK in a tree next to the nest tree. He stayed for about an hour.

HK gets a quick visitor

I was sitting at HK's nest for a good 25 minutes, when I discovered he had been in it all along. He walked out on a branch, after finishing a meal.

And took off out the back.
About 30 minutes later, I heard eagle screaming. I barely got my camera up, when these two eagles came tumbling down in a talon lock.  Sorry for the poor quality, it happened very fast. The one on the left is HK. The one one the right was unbanded and flew right on by.

It was quiet for another 40 minutes, when I thought I heard two eagles approaching my location. I could only locate one, who was HK and perched beside me. Gotta love that.
He took off several minutes later and could not be relocated.

Sterling puts in an early day appearance 3.11.16

I got to Honey Bee early and although it took a while, I did locate Sterling and HK together on a fav cypress tree.

A sub adult eagle was close by, but that did not seem to bother the pair. Suddenly, Sterling dove for a fish!

HK immediately followed. She caught it and disappeared flying towards the nest, again followed by HK.
When I got to the nest, only HK was present in the tree.

Sterling never reappeared and HK flew briefly to a nearby tree. He did seem to be waiting.

But, HK flew, and I headed home.

HK and a pretty sub adult eagle 3.9.16

After spending much of the day in and around Honey Bee without seeing any eagles, HK showed up on a tower.

A pretty sub adult eagle flew in.

They had some interaction.

I missed them leaving, but both flew to the nest. HK landed first, and hopped out.

Then, she landed.

She didn't stay long, but he finished a small meal in another tree and cleaned his beak.

He stayed in that tree and was there when I left.

I came across her in the cell tower as I headed home.

Just HK. 3.8.16

Just HK in the nest tree and in the nest today. He did some dining and housekeeping.
I like this photo as it shows a good view of the nictitating membrane of the eye.

HK moves out on a branch.

HK in the nest.

Sunday, March 6, 2016

I was at Honey Bee late today. I only got 2 HK observations and although Sterling was sighted, I did not observe her.
HK on a tower was my first sighting.

He flew towards the nest and I followed. He was in the nest.

He hopped to an outside branch. HK looking regal.

Missed him leaving. So, I called it a day.

HK and Sterling 3.3.16.

I got an early morning start today. When I arrived at Honey Bee just before 8AM, Sterling and HK were both perched on a branch in the nest tree.

HK left and came back with a stick. He would make this trip for nest material 5 times in one hour!

Meanwhile, Sterling watched and preened.

HK left and Sterling watched the nest and waited. That's Sterling upper left.

She eventually left too, as did I.

More HK and Sterling 3.2.16.

There was more activity in the nest area late afternoon today.
HK flew by a couple of times, eventually landing in the nest.

Sterling came in also. She moved some stuff around and jumped to a branch.

HK did some work also.

HK joined her on a branch.

They just stayed up there for several minutes,

Then, they both flew and both were relocated back on the North Landing River. This is HK flying by Sterling.

Neither stayed long. Sterling left first and flew right by me.

I did not get a decent HK shot leaving. So, I returned to the nest, but there were not there. I then left for the day.
