Another Cold Day for HK: January 13, 2015

Another cold and dreary day here in Virginia Beach.  I think we have had more cloudy days this year than sunny ones. Seeing a Bald Eagle always lifts my soul though, so I went in search of one.
I found HK right away on the Osprey tower. He did not stay long!

But, he did perform a double flyover!

He disappeared for a while but I relocated him later on the 5th fairway of the golf course (which was closed).

He flew from pine tree to pine tree.

I lost him again and decided to call it a day. But, I stopped by the nest tree one last time, and there he was!

HK on the Osprey Nest Tower. January 11, 2015.

Sunday afternoon and I found HK all alone on the Osprey nest tower. I watched him for over an hour, mainly just looking around.

He also did a lot of preening. I am constantly amazed at the length and width of a Bald Eagle's tail feathers.

No other Bald Eagle was observed.

HK Breakfast Time! January 7, 2015.

I didn't see HK in the nest tree at first. My friend Barbara and I were talking and suddenly I spotted movement in the nest tree. HK was having a leisurely breakfast!

I am not sure what the entree was, but it was not a fish. Some fur was flying, so I suspect it was a squirrel. HK seems to have gotten quite good at hunting them recently.
The next few photos are just some different poses of HK finishing up his breakfast. If you don't like bloody stuff, don't scroll any further.

Finished breakfast!

Then HK hopped over into the nest and tidied up a bit!

This last photo shows nest size with HK barely visible on the right side.

The total encounter lasted about 20 minutes.

Private Photo Session With HK: January 5, 2015

A late afternoon encounter with a neighbor walking her dog in the subdivision adjacent to Honey Bee began this amazing experience with HK.  We walked together down a cart path on the golf course to her home. She was very familiar with my Honey Beeagles Facebook page and told me she had many Eagles perch in her yard over the years. She pointed to a tree and explained that the Eagles hadn't been for about a week. We looked up and there he was! Perched about 25 yards away, in the gold of a setting sun, was handsome HK! I only managed a few photos before he flew to another nearby tree, but I left him there. The lady asked that the location not be disclosed.

HK, Sterling, and a Squirrel for lunch. January 4, 2015.

HK and Sterling flew into my vicinity about 12:45pm. He had already been in the Osprey nest earlier. They flew in together, but Sterling landed in the nearby cell tower and HK came to the Osprey nest with a fresh squirrel.

Sterling came to the Osprey nest in about 2 minutes and HK graciously gave her the meal.

It took about 45 minutes for her to finish, then she allowed him some leftovers. He hopped around a bit. HK on the right. Sterling in the Osprey nest.
HK on left.
They traded places. Sterling now on the right.
He took off, picked up a pine branch and headed for his own nest.

I found him there but was unable to relocate her.

He left soon after and I headed for home, exhilarated by the experience.
