HK still building 3.18.15.

HK continues to bring in lumber to the Honey Bee nest.  I was so very lucky that he flew close to me.

A New Girl In Town Visits HK. March 12, 2015

What started out as a disappointing morning at Honey Bee turned into a sunny afternoon. On my way home from another photo op, I stopped by HK's nest. There was an Eagle on the branch of the nest tree. I got out of my car to take a picture.

 

I only took a couple of shots, and returned to my car. I missed the Eagle leaving.

I sat there for about two minutes and saw movement in the nest tree. There was a second Eagle up there!

Again, I left my car and crossed the street. I moved slowly to try to see the Eagle. I thought I recognized this Eagle as HK.

I took a couple more shots and went back to the car.

Some neighborhood kids came out on skateboards, and the Eagle launched.

But, I did catch the take off and the bands confirmed this as HK!

So, I am left to wonder, who this pretty mysterious visitor to the nest tree was?

Just HK (again). March 4, 2015

Again I found HK in his nest tree. He was dining on a squirrel.

It took HK about 25 minutes to complete this meal. Then he hopped into the nest.

He moved some sticks around and then looked right at me! I love this picture!

HK left via the rear of the nest and I could not relocate him today.

It's been a while since I have seen Sterling, but I have been told she is still in the Honey Bee area. HK continues to spend a good deal of time working on his nest.

HK looks over his work.

HK hops out to an adjacent branch and looks for Sterling, perhaps.

HK leaves the nest.

And treats me to a nice fly by.

HK lands just down from my car and performs some feaking.

HK continues to look around.

HK ruffles his feathers.

HK looks around some more.

I missed HK's departure and left soon after.

Exciting goings on at Honey Bee with a possible mating between HK and Sterling. Time will tell......: 2.22.15

A quite interesting day at Honey Bee. The weather forecast called for rain, but when it did not materialize, I drove out to Honey Bee after being snowed in for 4 days. I immediately found HK on a tower. And he immediately took off....

and flew, right over my head. I think he looked at me!

 I drove to the nest, just in time to see HK come in carrying a stick in his beak.

HK deposited the stick in his nest. He did some arranging and left.

The golf course was closed due to the melting ice and snow, so I decided to take a walk. I spent some time photographing some ducks and herons. I was on my way back when I heard Eagle chatter and turned around to find HK and Sterling on the feeding tree. Below is Sterling.

HK appeared to be checking out his bling.

Sterling finished up a fish while HK watched. Sterling on left.

They flew across the river to a cypress tree. That's Sterling on top.

Then, they flew to the Osprey tower. They spent about 30 minutes looking around and looking at each other.

HK left abruptly, but Sterling remained and hopped into the Osprey nest.

About 60 seconds later, HK returned, vocalizing.

HK landed extremely close to Sterling and she bowed down.

Sterling was out of sight behind the sign for 10-12 seconds, but HK seemed on top of things!

HK hopped off to the left side. Sterling remained in the nest.

I walked back to my car and telephoned Reese Lukei. I was thinking that this was a possible mating. After reviewing the photos, he agreed that it was possible. So, now we wait.
