I arrived at Honey Bee and HK was already in the cell tower. He was obstructed, so I didn't even snap a photo of him. Sterling flew in a short time later. I love it when that happens.
Sterling hopped down to the center.
And then HK followed. They moved around a bit. At times, I thought she was trying to keep him warm, but that would be humanizing them.
Sterling left first. I missed the take off. HK looked for her for a bit.
I missed his takeoff as well. Had my beagle with me and he needed some attention.
I relocated HK about 45 minutes later in a favorite tree. No sign of Sterling.
This is a blog about Norfolk Botanical Garden banded Bald Eagle "HK," hatched in 2009. The photos and observations are mine unless otherwise indicated. I hope you enjoy this story of HK's life along a golf course on the North Landing River. Please take a second and leave a comment, they are greatly appreciated.

HK has a young visitor 1.3.16.
a young Eagle showed up by the Food Lion, one tower away from the cell tower.
She wasted no time coming to say hello to HK.
HK was not impressed though, and vacated his perch.
He stayed on the tower though. She looked at him, longingly.
He bowed his head.
They regarded each other for a while.
She tried a couple more times to get close.
HK was not having any of it. So, the last time, he left and she followed.
But just down to the Food Lion tower. In over 4 years I had only seen him perch there once before. They sat for a bit.
She got tired of his resistance I guess, and left as suddenly as she appeared. She came right by me, giving me a nice flyby.
HK stayed on the Food Lion tower, where I left him.

HK only. 1.2.16
HK was alone both times I saw him today.
When I arrived, HK was perched in a tree next to the driving range.
He left there and flew to the cell tower, where he did come chattering.
He left abruptly.
It took me a while to relocate HK. When I did, it was back in the cell tower. It appeared he had recently finished a meal, as some feaking was going on.
The Landstown pair were in the next tower! This was interesting as I had just seen that pair mating a short time earlier!
There was also a disturbing developement: a drone flying over the golf course. I could not locate the operator.
The Landstown pair eventually left. I left HK perched there as I had another commitment.

Encounter with HK 12.26.15
I took a chance the day after Christmas and drove to Honey Bee. I only had about an hour before guests arrived for dinner, but decided to take the chance. Luck was with me as HK was in the Osprey nest tower surrounded by fog.
I drove to another side, hoping the light was better. It was....slightly.
After several minutes, HK flew down a fairway and landed in a dead tree.
I drove around a very long block and was able to relocate him in a dead snag where I have seen eagles perched several times. Reluctantly, I had to leave the car, which I use as a shield. Fortunately, this day, HK cooperated and never moved. I was able to take a series of portrait type photos and to change locations while doing so.
It was a chance encounter but I felt exhilarated, as I left him in that tree.

HK. 12.23.15.
Not a lot of time during the busy holiday season, but I took a break and drove to Honey Bee hoping to catch an eagle. This is the 3rd day of gray, misty, rainy skies.
HK was in the second Osprey nest right at the Honey Bee entrance. The day was drawing to an end, so I parked and mostly just watched him. I was hoping another eagle might show, but it didn't happen.
